Nylon is commonly used in the following automotive parts: engine hood, rocker arm cover, cooling and heating devices, and fuel tank. Most nylon resins used in these areas are reinforced with 20-40% glass fiber or other mineral fibers to improve strength. Nylon resin can also be treated with special chemical methods to reduce the disadvantages of hydrolysis and oxidation and enhance the advantages of heat resistance.
The appearance of auto parts engine hood is very important. Nylon can provide a good surface for products, so nylon is very suitable for this application. At the same time, nylon can also obtain color mold parts, thus avoiding expensive painting steps.
Some reinforced and modified nylon varieties that are very suitable for hood manufacturing have been applied. It is reported that compared with other polyamide resins, this material can be used to design and manufacture thinner auto parts. It is expected that the output of this resin will increase rapidly by 40% in order to compete with other nylon products. It is reported that these nylon varieties also have the advantages of high strength, good appearance, low injection molding pressure and less leftover materials.
Many automobile manufacturers have replaced the original aluminum inlet box valve with nylon inlet box valve. According to industry analysis, using nylon instead of aluminum can reduce the production cost by 30% and the weight by 50%. You can also further reduce costs through component integration.
The water inlet valve usually adopts 30~35% glass fiber reinforced nylon 6 and nylon 66. Some inlet box valves adopt coreless processing technology, while others connect the two injection molded shells through vibration welding. Nylon is suitable for inlet box valve, which can withstand 150oC high temperature, oil resistance, and has good stiffness and low noise performance.
Traditionally, rocker arm covers used to protect and seal engine valves are made of aluminum or thermosetting plastic. However, glass or mineral reinforced nylon resin is gradually becoming an ideal choice in this application field. The main reason for this trend is that nylon can reduce the weight of products and has good adaptability.
Nylon 66 used for manufacturing rocker arm cover has high hardness, oil and chemical corrosion resistance, good dimensional stability and low thermal deformation. Reinforced nylon 6 can also be used to make rocker panels.
Glass fiber reinforced nylon can be used to produce fan blades, fan covers, radiator tanks, heat exchangers, water evaporators, hot water control valves and thermostat housings. Nylon has the advantages of good thermal stability, high hardness, small thermal deformation and good wear resistance, which can be used in this field. The low weight of nylon molded parts and the ability of component integration make the radiator fan much lighter than metal products.
